I believe most people would agree that getting injured in any capacity is something to be avoided. I think this might be a misdirected fear. While nobody wants a serious injury, minor injuries happen from time to time and we shouldn’t be afraid of them. The reason is that avoiding the chance of any injury means that you essentially have to stop doing any activity. The results of inactivity are often worse than an occasional injury while being active. That’s why I think my recent diagnosis of Runner’s Knee and Tennis Elbow is a good thing!
In this episode I will review my lifetime of activity, how I approach being active, talk about the injuries I’ve had, how I go about treating them and then I will discuss why being active with some injuries is far better than the alternative.
Takeaways:
- Avoiding all activity to prevent injuries can lead to worse health outcomes in the long run.
- Injuries are a natural part of an active lifestyle and shouldn’t be feared excessively.
- Addressing injuries quickly and seeking qualified help can aid in faster recovery.
- Maintaining an active lifestyle is crucial for overall health and longevity, despite occasional injuries.
- Long-term health goals should focus on mobility and strength rather than short-term competitiveness.
- Incorporating proper warm-up and cool-down routines can help mitigate the risk of injuries.
